Indian News Media vs The People

Indian News Media vs The PeopleSince a year and half there has been lot of ‘Hue and Cry’ from News Media, certain biased -famously termed as- pseudo-intellects, and few political figures. This is particularly increased with the new government at the Centre.

Frequented claims by these personalities are obstruction to Freedom of Speech, growing Intolerance, Trolling over social media.
I admit present speeches by few political and famous personalities are haywire; it is difficult to make a head or tail out of it; whereas these can be over sighted; there are statements which are critically anti-national or disturbing certain faith. But my question is when were they not????
Nevertheless, it is certainly interesting as well critical to identify the incidents leading to this today…
Before the introduction of Social Media platform, News and Current affairs were a one-way street and was controlled through Prints, Radio and Television. [News distribution is a challenging task for the country like ‘India’, which is multi-lingual, multi-cultural and geographically vast].

Media had a fair amount of control over what we should know; whereas this was acceptable since in its early days they were more or less honest, except in situations when Government may have been responsible for distortions or concealment of facts. Things began to change perhaps in last 15-18 years, key reasons -Competition and TRP wars!

More and more news channels came on Air and started a war, serious and responsible reporting converted to petty & glamourise journalism or secret sources -‘not all is corrupt, but there are a very few exception within News Media today.

Thus altered the Rationale and quality of news, now-a-days everything is sensational and a breaking news, except for the matter that are truly sensitive in nature. Kind of a news and debate that are being delivered are appalling if not only insulting to the recipient, to me to say the least and many like me.

In this league are also many accredited minds influenced by western philosophy or interests, and political figures who regularly make comments as if they are the sole representation of Nation’s intelligence corps, development, future and unity. I am not against any point of view, and being a citizen everyone has a right to express or protest as per their beliefs, questionable is when reaction is selective or directed out of loyalty other than to the Nation.

Statements and reactions they make are occasionally nonsensical, biased and outrageous to a point of patronising its recipient. Now my question to them is “Why a selective protest?” Democracy or not, every citizen has a right to protest in favour of a Nation but it has to be responsible, unbiased and universal.

Certainly, not all statements and opinion coming from this section is biased, some do address core issues and are honest but then it is difficult to identify from different shades.

In past such comments remained unchallenged, however that changed permanently with Social Media platform, like Twitter and Facebook. Everything said is questioned, challenged, counter-challenged, and debated directly by a common man. Perhaps a reason for all ‘Hue and Cry’. It may be difficult for these personalities to swallow any form of criticism, specifically coming from a common man.

New kind of political war commenced since the change in Central Government, from May-2014 -a type that we have never seen, and where citizens actively stand up to right and wrong.

Social Media have played a critical role during Loksabha Election of 2014. In his campaign, Shri Narendra Modi, the now Prime Minister of India, extensively employed social media platform for communication and interaction with the voters. His Social indulgence turned more aggressive after coming to PMO, and his later instructions to all his Cabinet members to keep in touch with people through Facebook & Twitter. This  strategy has seen a grand success, citizens are flooding ideas, suggestions and interactions directly to the Cabinet members.

Social media transformed us ‘Indians’ from being merely a receptor of information. We are now able to validate, invalidate, debate and in instances become a first hand reporter. Social Media has given us the power to influence over what others speak, and this is what is bothering them. And whenever any biased opinion is challenged by people it is titled as trolls. Ironically, often questioned is ‘Freedom of Speech’ by the people who in a name criticism publicly throw abusive comments towards the Government, and unlike the attitude of the pervious governments these people are not convicted in any way, directly or indirectly.
#AwardWapsi i.e. protest undertaken by some artists, scientists, academic etc by returning their awards is a perfect example of selective outrage by these people, these people have never acted with a same zeal for Shikh, Kashmiri Pandits, Ayodhya massacre victims, and beheading of Indian soldier. No awards were returned or denied for acceptance….

#Intolerance #BeefBan are other examples… no one condemns to an act when politicians play religious cards in favour of other religion or when Karnataka Minister gives a statement to waive off part of loan of minority religion, or questions the state government for crimes happening in their turf. Hence, it is safe to assume all these agendas are directed towards the present Government, PM to be specific, and has no National interest whatsoever. Had it been so then these very same people would have voiced their concern long ago….

The very attitude of selective outrage by many is what aggravating us. Coming back to the subject, change in Government and use of social media have created a very strong ripple of awareness, social responsibility and National interests in citizens, and it will grow stronger. Incidents like #Awardwapsi etc will fuel it further, in short-term they’re may win but war will not be lost by us!

Nevertheless, to all concerned citizens out there we must not stoop to their level, we must keep our head cool, our comments aggressive to a point without being abusive. It is we who can change the course of our Nation not them!!!!

There is a big difference between being a Citizen and a Patriot!

How I want my Mumbai….

Mumbai city is among fastest developing metros of the world. Commercial and Financial capital of India, largest tax paying city for the Government, opportunity hub for aliens and ‘my city’ for the Mumbaikars !

You can get anything you desire here, money, glamour, city to raise your family. She is a place where it is easier to get rich than find peace and patience. Mumbai does have serenity and a breath of freedom if you choose to listen and leave all the urban gifts to simplicity and rest of humanity.

Situation was a lot different about two decades ago. There was a poor but developing infrastructure, and there was still the race to become rich as well as there was containment. What have made of Mumbai as it is today are step-by-step introduction of events and policies.

‘Liberalisation policy’ and Computers radically changed the business reach, competition and opportunity, it was a rich piece of pie accessible to any average citizens with a desire of wealth and will to work hard for it. Then came the evolution of Stock Exchange & Intl Corporates, brought ample of opportunity and money in the stream.

All these changes emerged Mumbai as one of the important cities. Rat Race existed then but life in Mumbai did not struggle to breath. But then things began to change, Capital interest in the city resulted in gradual detonations, various scams, financial crashes, real estate hikes, education hikes, etc etc.. and a struggle to survive begun for the people, esp middle- and lower section. So then what has been done to prevent it ??? and this question is for inhabitants and government.

Mumbai was and still is a the best of any worlds. But what she is today or govt envision her is certainly what I do not want her to be…

01- first thing first ‘Don’t Want’ it to be anything like Shanghai or Singapore, and certainly not naming

everything in Chinese!! why not make Mumbai of what she is and a part of Indian culture.

02- ‘Don’t Want’ Revenue collected from Mumbai and not even a good chunk of it spent on Mumbai.

03- ‘Don’t Want’ lifeline of Mumbai to be squeezed by few Capital and Political geniuses.

04- ‘Don’t Want’ it to see it develop to anything else other than a Metro with a mix of culture and a

blend of Mumbadevi.

05- ‘Want’ a good infrastructure and public utility so people can spend time with family and not on

the Road.

06- ‘Want’ Mumbai to be viewed for their inhabitant than just a bag full of money or people to exploit.

07- ‘Want’ banners and instructions educating people to keep Mumbai clean rather than political

faces around.

08- ‘Want’ festivals allowed without competition, item numbers and series of political and

sponsorship banners.

09- ‘Want’ a system where every life is measured precious and system made for the people.

10- ‘Want’ law and order to be strict and people in charge of law be paid well.

11- ‘Want’ Mumbai as a place where people shall work with the law and regime, rather than in fear of

12- ‘ Want’ Mumbaikars to stand against corruption and not involve in one. Development of right

system will ask for few generation of sacrifice, why not start with ours.

13- ‘WANT’ all Mumbaikars to do their part, if government cannot change the system then let us

begin with the change.

Evolution of System involves People whereas Revolutionary System involves mainly force. And in Revolution there is a thin line between a good Leader and a Maniac in power. Building a good and corruption-free system is like a plan to acquire wealth, one needs to work hard, intelligently, sacrifice, be involved with people for development.

Always know that Freedom of Speech is a boon to Democracy only when it is made responsibly and with knowledge rather than just as a joke on social media.

Democracy works well only when people are active. For lazy, democracy will destroy the nation.

MAHABHARATA & ‘Bhagavad Gita’…why was it necessary?

Mahabharata is a most popular epic in Sanatana-Dharma or Vedic Culture or Hinduism. I’ll be using the term ‘Sanatana-Dharma’ or ‘Vedic’ instead of Hinduism, since the word ‘Hindu’ or ‘Hinduism’ originated much later in the History and furthermore ancient Vedic texts has no reference to this word.

It is a common belief that Mahabharata epic is merely about the war of Kurukshetra, between Kurus’ and Pandu-sons, and events that lead the war. Certainly, but purpose of Mahabharata is formidable about the commencement of Kali Yuga and appalling effect of Kali Yuga in society, human consciousness and karma.

Mahabharata is a historic affair, dispensable but willfully staged by Lord Krisna, the 8th Avatara or incarnation of Supreme God Vishnu on Earth to re-educate and prepare people for outset of Kali Yuga. Mahabharata is all about Sri Krisna, not for anything beyond or outside of him, his teachings, desire, purpose and human being who forms a part of him.

In eternal Vedic texts [it can be a Mythology for whoever should choose to believe scripts as some legendary tales but it in reality is supreme Spiritual-Scientific knowledge, which is a direct descendant of Supreme consciousness] it has been well-illustrated that everything in Universe that exist, alive or inanimate, seen or unseen is the energy and manifestation of supreme lord Vishnu /Krisna. And Human being himself is a part of him and his consciousness, i.e. intelligent and capable to perform karma.

Hence, Lord Krisna appears on Earth at the outset of Kali Yuga to remind and guide Human being.

what is ‘YUGA’ According to Sruti [Sruti are the four Vedas or Sacred texts which is a direct inheritance, revelation of supreme Lord Vishnu or Krisna in his own words to mankind] Universe is subject to a perpetual cycle of creation and destruction, and one such cycle has four phase or Yuga, these are Satya [Truth] Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga and Kali Yuga.

Chronologically, with the dawn of every new yuga human race is fettered to a social and karmic degradation, worse off than the previous one. Until the beginning of last Kali Yuga wherein the intelligent-Human race is bound to gradually lose its objectivity, compassion, humility and above all ‘its purpose’, which is to serve the Supreme and follow a Satvik Karma, which in turn can liberate the individual from cycle of birth & death and unite with the Supreme Lord.

Mahabharata, like all the upanishads [upanishads are ‘Smruti’, written historic records] can be dated with the help of astronomical events mentioned in the epic for that time. There is a discreet branch or Shastra [means Science] known as Surya-Siddhanta that deals with Astronomical calculations, viz. positions, distances & duration.

With the help of Surya-Siddhanta and references within the epic many scientists, scholars are able to determine the date of Mahabharata War [3067 BCE, November 22]. There is some bias about the date, but is more or less closely related. Unfortunately, to add many Vedic texts has been lost in time, either physically or interpretation of them.

Mahabharata is simply a conch-shell blown to announce the beginning of Kali Yuga, and of all the horrific events and transition that should follow. It is a proclamation to advancement in the negative qualities & energy.

It will be a chaotic state were Spirituality will be taken over by Materialism, humility by greed and desires by ignorance, cruelty & indifference. Total age of Kali Yuga is 432,000 years and during this yuga a final incarnation, 10th avatara, of Lord Vishnu in the form of Kalki will descend to liberate.

Mahabharata epic gives a glimpse of every inappropriate deed that can take over human kind in Kali Yuga; viz. corruption, false karma, desire and greed over duties, killing of kins for wealth, honour or power, rape, and the greater of all sins, ignorance & silence towards the bad actions [i.e. akarmak or inactive karma] .

In this way through Mahabharata, Lord Krisna have tried to warn and educate people against all kind of mis-deeds and false desire.

Another sacred text, and the most important one by far is ‘Bhagavad Gita’.

Bhagavad Gita is a part or consequential outcome of Mahabharata. It can also be believed that another reason for events of Mahabharata is so Bhagavad Gita could be narrated again by Lord Krisna, and in this new Kali age directly to mankind, and also to establish the ‘Guru-Shishya parampara’, which translates as ‘Teacher- Disciple tradition’. [In Sanatana Dharma, Teacher is considered as God himself and without a divine Teacher- Disciple relationship knowledge and salvation is incomplete for any student].

Bhagavad Gita basically is a conversation happened between Lord Krisna and Arjuna, one of the greatest warrior and also one of the five sons of Pandu, on the battle ground of Kurukshetra. Both the armies are facing in battlefield and on observing his own kins, teacher, great grandfather, relatives as adversaries Arjuna is in dilemma about fighting the war. It is then Lord Krisna, Saarthi [charioteer] of Arjuna, unravel the words of his supreme self and wisdom, i.e. Bhagavad Gita, and purifies Arjuna of any doubt, hesitation, suspicion to fulfill his karma for truth and dharma. After the divine words are spoken Arjuna, who is also a friend and disciple, realises that Krisna himself is a Supreme godhead and unconditionally surrenders himself to the will of Lord Krisna.

During the conversation Lord Krisna enlightens Arjuna, and human being in general, about who ‘Lord Krirsna’ is in reference to all living and non-living elements of both material and transcendental Universe, with the reality of Maya, what this World /Universe is about, importance of Karma, purpose of humans as an enlightened being, and finally the eventuality of everything which in time is eternal.

In Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krisna guides us with an approach and means through which to live in a Kali Yuga, and lead a life that is free of any suffering or inordinate desires. Bhagavad Gita goes further with commandments which if followed will ultimately result in liberation of individual soul from the cycle of Rebirth and Death and enjoy the eternal bliss.

Lord Krisna departed from earth in 3031 BC. Bhagavad Gita was later composed.

Kali Yuga began somewhere in 3102 BCE.

Sanatana or Vedic Dharma and Bhagavad Gita are no religion or sect or culture. It is a way of life that anyone can learn and /or follow. Live a life without hate or sorrow, extreme desire or remorse and keep performing your Karma.

My last ‘Apple Bite’..

Like most of you’ll am the Apple fan, like a daddy’s boy. So long Apple is a boy’s toy with the long drawn history of struggle, brilliancy and balls to stick with their belief. Unlike Bran Adams it was a Summer of 2002 when I first get my hands onto the Mac, darn…stunned… POSSESSED!!!! what the hell am I doing with the Microsoft products?!!

It was then I converted to be a die-hard Apple follower, frnds too nicked me the  Apple-guy 😉 I distinctly remember dragging my uncle to a Apple outlet and since then he still sniffs through Apple releases, convincing himself to buy it and even subscribed to the newsletter.

Steve Jobs has marvelously created a matrix of people who create the ideas and not manufactured Sales. iPod a good example that changed our notations of music, never heard any kid on the block asking for a MP3 player but en iPod is the synonym. Or iPhone which revolutionized the way we use a Smartphone in daily life, at some places even as a lifebouy.

Apple products were a little far then affordable from where I come from and for a school boy!, so was the case few years back of timeline but after years of waiting I was finally able to share my bite of the Apple, sadly not a Mac machine but fortunately an iPod Touch. Although never missed any golden opportunity to try their products in outlets, has always been a sheer indulgence!!!!

Keeping up with Steve Jobs is quite a job, Exciting! Lately Jobs seem to find himself in a corporate maze, with end-user technologies growing at a lightening speed, integrative and multi-utility, as well competition getting more complex. Momentum of Samsung and Motorola, alternatives being introduced everyday and right now is where Technologist need to give something better or different, its not a time for mere substitutions.

Apple is making its way through many controversies and fierce competition, but their recent dirty way to sell iPhone 4 into China has been extremely disappointing. With terms dictated by the Chinese, Apple’s pre-loaded Map rigged out a part of Indian territory into China. You can follow more on this in link,

Being a forever Apple follower as well a true Nationalist there is complex reaction of aggravation and sentiments that made me to literary dump on my iPod and Apple henceforth, thereby so titled my last bite of Apple product and news updates.

If you are an Indian and feel something to about it then soon going to articulate about Apple-Chinese move and Centre’s response to it , poll to be added as well, comments and suggestions on this are invited for discussion.
